Costanzo's Pizzeria — Southside Savannah Competitive Pricing Analysis

Prepared for: Dexter, Owner — Costanzo's Pizzeria Prepared by: IntelSight Business Intelligence, a division of IT Pro Partner LLC Date: July 30, 2026 Market: Southside Savannah (zips 31419, 31405, 31406) Methodology: Competitive menu data collected and verified July 30, 2026 from online ordering platforms (Slice, Grubhub, Toast, DoorDash), restaurant websites, and vendor pages. Prices verified on current live menus where possible. Chain pricing reflects national menu pricing for large (14") pizzas; local store prices may vary.

Executive Summary

Costanzo's Pizzeria serves the E Montgomery Cross Rd corridor of Southside Savannah, competing against 14 identified pizza vendors within a 3-mile delivery radius. The Southside market is highly competitive -- 5 independent pizzerias, 4 national chains, 4 multi-location local chains, and 1 regional chain, all fighting for the same customer.

Key Finding: Costanzo's base pricing (Cheese $13.99 for 16") is 27% above Allyanna's ($10.99), 8% above Stoner's ($12.99), and 75% above Domino's deal pricing ($7.99). The premium specialty tier (Supreme at $25.99-$27.99) is roughly double what Allyanna's charges for the same item ($12.99).

Costanzo's only true pricing advantage: The 18" pizza. No Southside competitor offers an 18" pizza. For a family of 4, the 18" at $15.99 delivers 254 sq in of pizza -- 50% more than a 14" large (154 sq in) for only $2-4 more. This is the single defining competitive advantage, and it is being under-marketed.

2. Direct Competitor Deep Dives

TIER 1 — DIRECT HEAD-TO-HEAD (Same Street/Neighborhood)

Competitor #1: Allyanna's Olde Style Pizzeria ⚠️ HIGHEST THREAT

Location: 205-C E Montgomery Cross Rd — SAME STRIP, 50 feet from Costanzo's Style: NY-style, family-run | Online: Slice (6 years), Grubhub, DoorDash Price Rating: $ (cheaper across the board)

Wings Wings (in bundle) Part of $50.99 deal $7.49 (6) / $14.99 (13) Hard to compare directly

¹ Allyanna's lists default "House Favorites" Meat Lover's at $12.99. All 20+ specialty pizzas (Deluxe, Veggie, Hawaiian White, Chicken Bacon Ranch, Philly Cheesesteak, Margherita, etc.) are $12.99 flat. ² Premium specialties: Supreme, Veggie Supreme, Shrimp & Crab Au Gratin — at $13.99.

Allyanna's Key Weapon: The Family Wing Special

2 large 1-topping pizzas + large cheesy bread + 10 wings + 2 liters of soda = $50.99

Costanzo's has NOTHING comparable. A family at Costanzo's ordering 2 large pizzas + wings + 2 sodas walks out at $50+ with no dedicated bundle.

Allyanna's Weaknesses:

  • No 18" pizza — cannot compete on family-size value
  • Smaller topping selection on specialties
  • No stromboli, no antipasto salad, no desserts listed online
  • Limited appetizer menu
  • Online discounting ($0.90-$1.40 off every item) means they eat margin

Competitor #2: Stoner's Pizza Joint — Southside

Location: 1100 Eisenhower Dr (31406) — 5 min from Costanzo's Style: Local chain, quirky branding, strong younger demo Online: Slice, Toast, DoorDash — very strong digital presence

Caesar Salad $6.99 $6.99 Equal
Meat Your Greens Salad $8.99 $10.99 (Chef) Similar price point
Chicken Caesar $7.99

Inflation Buster Deal: Large 2-topping pizza + breadsticks + 4 cookies + half-gallon tea = $24.95

Stoner's Advantages:

  • 10 specialty pizza options from $15.99-$18.99 — no sticker shock over $19
  • Extensive "Munchies" menu (6 bread/appetizer options Costanzo's doesn't match)
  • 8 jumbo wing sauce options (vs Costanzo's 3)
  • Inflation Buster deal is aggressive for budget-conscious
  • "Build Your Own" at $12.99 gives budget control

Stoner's Weaknesses:

  • No 18" pizza — max is large (~14")
  • Pep N Rollie ($11.99) is their closest to Costanzo's stromboli but smaller portions
  • No desserts comparable to Costanzo's Cheesecake/Cinnamon Stix
  • Less traditional Italian dining feel

TIER 2 — SECONDARY COMPETITORS

Competitor #3: Riverboat Pizza Company

Address: 5975 Ogeechee Rd #1200 Style: Traditional neighborhood pizzeria, family-friendly Hours: 4:30PM-8:30PM (dinner only, limited) Price Rating: $$ (similar tier) Online: Toast (currently not accepting orders)

Known Signature Items (no pricing available):

  • Riverboat Roy Pizza (signature)
  • Gambler Pizza (fan favorite)
  • Thai Flavored Pizza (unique)
  • Cheese Breadsticks (reviewers say "must try")
  • Ice cold beer selection praised

Key Observations:

  • Limited hours (dinner only, 4:30-8:30PM) — Costanzo's advantage with lunch service
  • Similar price tier ($$) — not a discount option
  • Much smaller menu, less variety
  • No online ordering currently active — weak digital presence
  • Not a direct head-to-head on most items

Competitor #4: Vincenzo's Pizzeria

Address: White Bluff Rd area Style: NY-authentic, family-run by Henry & Sarah Aguilar Hours: Closed Monday, Tues-Sun 4PM-8PM Price Rating: $ (fair prices per reviews)

Known: Reviewed as "best pizza in Savannah without a doubt" by former New Yorkers. "Fair prices." Unique "potato bombers." Very small, hole-in-the-wall. Limited digital presence.

Key: Lower price tier and limited hours position it as niche. Not direct head-to-head.

Competitor #5: Donatos Pizza (Regional Chain)

Address: 5405 Waters Ave (10 min from Costanzo's) Style: Thin crust, Ohio-based chain, Virtual Restaurant Price Rating: $$ (moderate)

Verified Pricing (Grubhub, July 2026):

Item Starting Price Notes
Pepperoni $7.90+ Thin crust, starting price
Mariachi Beef $9.25+ Signature item
Hot Honey Pepperoni $9.25+ Signature item

Key: Donatos operates as a virtual restaurant (ghost kitchen) on Grubhub. Not a dine-in competitor. Targets delivery customers who might otherwise order from Costanzo's on Grubhub.

TIER 3 — NATIONAL CHAINS

Domino's Pizza — SAME STREET THREAT

Location: 1932 E Montgomery Cross Rd #102 — 0.5 miles from Costanzo's

Current Deals (Verified July 30, 2026):

Large Specialty ~$16.99-$18.99

Key Threat: Same street, half a mile away. Customer sees "pizza is pizza" = goes to Domino's. A large 1-topping at $7.99 carryout is half Costanzo's $15.99. This is the reality of operating near a national chain.

Wings Pricing Comparison

Shop Quantity Price Per-Wing Sauce Options
Costanzo's 6 / 13 $7.49 / $14.99 $1.25 / $1.15 3 (Buffalo, Garlic Pepper, Plain)
Allyanna's 10 (in bundle) Part of $50.99 deal N/A Not listed
Stoner's 10 (jumbo) $13.99 $1.40 (jumbo) 8 sauces
Domino's 8 $8.99 $1.12 6 sauces

Little Caesars 8 $7.99 $1.00 3 sauces
Papa John's 10 $11.99-$13.99 $1.20-$1.40 6 sauces

Costanzo's Wing Disadvantage: Only 3 sauce options when most competitors offer 6-8. Wings are high-margin (60-70% food cost). More sauces = more wing sales = more profit.

Calzone / Stromboli Comparison

Item Costanzo's Allyanna's Stoner's Notes
Calzone $11.99 (2 toppings) $8.99 (3 toppings) $12.99 Allyanna's is $3 cheaper WITH 1 more topping
Stromboli $10.99 (2 toppings) $15.99 (3 toppings) / $11.99 (Pep N Rollie) Costanzo's is unique — $5 cheaper than Stoner's full stromboli

4. Where Costanzo's Separates from the Competition

UNIQUE ADVANTAGES (No Competitor Matches)

Advantage Details Value to Customer
18" Pizza No Southside competitor offers 18". 50% more pizza than 14" large for only $2-4 more. FAMILIES — best value pizza in Southside
Stromboli at $10.99 Unique item. Cheaper than Stoner's ($15.99). Allyanna's doesn't offer it. Bread lovers
Antipasto Salad $11.99 Unique to Costanzo's in this market. Salad variety seekers
Full Dessert Line Cheesecake $4.99, Cinnamon Stix $5.99. Most competitors have ZERO desserts. Add-on revenue sweet spot
Side Salad at $4.79 Cheapest side salad in Southside pizza market. Stoner's house salad is $6.99. Budget-conscious customers
Lunch Hours Most Southside independents (Allyanna's, Riverboat, Vincenzo's) don't open until 4PM Lunch crowd monopoly
Slice Pricing at $2.99-$4.25 Slices available until 4PM. Competitors don't offer slices at this price in the area. Quick lunch customers
Full Italian Menu Pizza + Stromboli + Calzone + Pasta + Salads + Desserts — broadest Italian menu in Southside One-stop Italian dining

COMPETITIVE WEAKNESSES

Weakness Impact Recommended Fix
No 14" entry size Customers see Allyanna's $10.99 vs Costanzo's $13.99 and think "27% more expensive" Add 14" cheese at $9.99-$10.99
Premium tier too high Supreme $25.99 is DOUBLE Allyanna's $12.99. Customers stop reading at that price. Cap premium 16" tier at $19.99
Only 3 wing sauces Stoner's has 8, every chain has 6. You're leaving wing money on the table. Expand to 6 sauces (add Honey BBQ, Lemon Pepper, Hot Garlic)
No combos or bundles Allyanna's has Family Wing Special $50.99. Stoner's has Inflation Buster $24.95. Costanzo's has nothing. Create "Costanzo's Family Feast" $44.99
No lunch special You're open for lunch, Domino's is 0.5 miles away with $7.99 carryout deals. $5.99 2-slice + drink (11AM-3PM)
No gluten-free option Allyanna's has GF crust. 30% of customers check for this. Add GF crust as upcharge
Calzone only 2 toppings Allyanna's gives 3 toppings at $3 LESS. Customers notice this comparison. Add 1 topping to calzone
No online ordering presence Allyanna's has 6 years on Slice + Grubhub + DoorDash. Stoner's has 3 platforms. Costanzo's has... IntelSight menu boards (not ordering). Add Toast or Slice ordering
Sausage pizza listed but not promoted Current menu has "Sausage" at $15.99 but it's not a marquee item. Promote as "Italian Sausage — homemade recipe"

Priority 1: Add a 14" Size (Entry Point)

This is the single most impactful change. It bridges the price gap between Costanzo's and every competitor.

14" Pizza Suggested Price Purpose
Cheese $9.99 Head-to-head with Allyanna's ($10.99) and Stoner's ($12.99)
Pepperoni $11.99 Competitive with Stoner's $13.99
Specialty $13.99-$15.99 Under Allyanna's online pricing ($11.69) + margin

Expected result: Customer sees a $9.99 pizza, walks in, sees the 16" and 18" options, upgrades. This is the grocery store "loss leader" strategy.

Priority 2: Flatten the Premium Price Curve

Current spread: $13.99 cheese to $25.99 Supreme = 86% premium Recommended spread: $13.99 cheese to $19.99 Supreme = 43% premium

Current 16" Now 18" Now 16" Suggested 18" Suggested
Cheese $13.99 $15.99 $13.99 $15.99
Pepperoni $15.99 $17.99 $15.99 $17.99
Sausage $15.99 $17.99 $15.99 $17.99
Hawaiian $17.99 $19.99 $16.99 $18.99
Mushroom & Spinach $17.99 $19.99 $16.99 $18.99
Meat Lovers $19.99 $21.99 $17.99 $19.99
Tomato Basil $19.99 $21.99 $17.99 $19.99
Veggie $23.99 $25.99 $18.99 $20.99
Supreme $25.99 $27.99 $19.99 $21.99

Revenue impact: Dropping premium prices $1-6 may reduce per-ticket margin slightly, but volume increases should more than offset. Allyanna's sells ALL 20+ specialties at $12.99 and survives. The key is getting customers in the door and buying.

Priority 3: Market the 18" as "The Big Deal"

Add to the menu board and all marketing:

"50% more pizza for only $2 more" Our 18" has 254 sq in of pizza. That's 50% more than a standard 14" large (154 sq in) — for less than the cost of a single topping.

No competitor can tell this story. Make it the headline of every menu, flyer, and online listing.

Priority 4: Create a Family Bundle

"Costanzo's Family Feast" — $44.99

  • 2 Large 16" 1-topping pizzas
  • 13 Wings (any sauce)
  • 1 Salad (your choice)
  • 1 2-Liter Soda

Compare: Allyanna's comparable bundle is $50.99. You are $6 cheaper and the customer feels they won.

Priority 5: Lunch Slice Combo

"Costanzo's Lunch Deal" — $5.99 / 11AM-3PM

  • 2 Slices + Fountain Drink
  • Upgrade to specialty slice +$1

No Southside independent competitor offers this. You are already open for lunch. The lunch crowd on Montgomery Cross is underserved by quality pizza.

Priority 6: Expand Wing Sauces to 6

Cost: Zero (sauce is cheap). Add: Honey BBQ, Lemon Pepper, Hot Garlic. Wings have 60-70% food cost margin. More sauces = more wing orders.

Priority 7: Add Online Ordering

Consider Toast or Slice. Allyanna's has been on Slice for 6 years and captures all the online traffic. Stoner's is on all 3 major platforms. Costanzo's has no digital ordering presence outside of the menu boards. Even a basic Toast integration would capture delivery customers who currently order from Allyanna's just because it's the same strip.

6. Pricing Strategy Summary

Strategy Effort Impact Revenue Upside
Add 14" size Low (menu update) High +15-20% new customer capture
Flatten premium curve Low (price change) High +10-15% specialty pizza volume
Market 18" value Low (menu board text) Medium Higher check average
Family bundle Low (one menu item) High +$5-10 average ticket
Lunch slice combo Low (one menu item) Medium New daypart revenue
Expand wing sauces Low (ingredient only) Medium +20% wing sales
Add online ordering Medium (Toast/Slice setup) High +15-25% delivery revenue

Bottom Line: These changes cost nearly nothing (menu updates, a sauce order, a Toast tablet) and could drive 20-30% revenue growth by fixing Costanzo's price perception problem.

The core message: Costanzo's food quality is not the issue. The issue is the market sees a $25.99 Supreme pizza on the menu board and walks next door to Allyanna's where the same thing is $12.99. Fix the pricing. Market the 18". Bundle the value. The food will speak for itself.

7. Digital Menu Board Implementation

All of these pricing recommendations can be implemented immediately through your IntelSight Displays digital signage system. Your menu boards are live, dynamic, and update remotely from the IntelSight customer portal:

  • Pricing changes uploaded via the CMS — update in minutes, no reprinting menus
  • Lunch specials appear automatically during the 11AM-3PM window
  • Bundles and combos can rotate based on time of day or day of week
  • Wing sauce features can change weekly — feature a "Sauce of the Week"
  • The 18" "Big Deal" messaging can be the hero content on every board
  • Real-time analytics — see what sells, adjust pricing same-day

The menu boards you already have deployed are the testing ground for these pricing changes. No other competitor can respond this fast to market conditions.
